THALASSA MUNICIPAL MUSEUM
Dedicated to marine archaeology in Cyprus. Shipwrecks and their contents from different periods, section on marine life.
Opened in 2005, this museum (Δημοτικό Μουσείο Θάλασσα/Dimotiko Mousio Thalassa, Thalassa Municipal Museum) is dedicated to marine archaeology in Cyprus. Housed in a modern building, it's pleasant to visit, well-designed and generally uncrowded. It houses shipwrecks from different eras and their contents (statues, amphorae, etc.), as well as a reproduction of the famous Kyrenia wreck. In the basement, a section is devoted to marine life around the island, with fossils dating back 130 million years.
