MONASTÈRE DE LA PANAGIA CHRYSOKOURDALIOTISSA

This Greek Orthodox monastery (Ιερά Μονή Παναγίας Χρυσοκουρδαλιώτισσας/Iera Moni Panagias Chrysokourdaliotissas) enjoys a pleasant setting, on the banks of the River Atsas, and boasts a superb late ^15th-century church which is on Unesco's tentative list for World Heritage listing. The interior retains some of the original woodwork and a beautiful fresco of Saint Barnabas (early ^15th century). A small community of nuns occupies the premises.
