AGIOS SOZOMENOS CHURCH
Dates from 1513. Frescoes (relatively well preserved) by the same painter as those in the church of Panagia tis Podithou.
This Greek Orthodox church (Ναός Αγίου Σωζομένου/Naos Agiou Sozomenou) is distinguished by its U-shape and beautiful wooden roof. It houses the relics of Saint Sozomenos, a bishop in the Karpas peninsula around the5th century. Built in 1513, it was decorated by Symeon Axentis, the same painter who worked on several Galata churches. Relatively well-preserved frescoes: cycle of the life of Christ, Virgin and Child, Tree of Jesse (theoretical genealogy of Jesus from Jesse, father of King David), portraits of saints, etc.
