TURUNZLU MOSQUE
the "Mosquée de l'oranger" (Orange Tree Mosque) stands on the site of a previous mosque, erected to house the students of a medersa.
The "Orange Tree Mosque" (Turunçlu Camii) was built in 1825 to accommodate the students of a now-defunct medersa (school). It stands on the site of an earlier mosque, itself probably built on the site of a former Catholic church. The mosque is rarely open. Restored Restored in 1972, the current building is dominated by a 15 m-high minaret. Under the six-arched porch, an inscription recalls the building's construction, ordered by the Ottoman governor of Cyprus, Seyyit Mehmet Agha.
