KUMARCILAR HAN
the "Caravanserai of the punters" in Nicosia has 44 rooms to accommodate traders' caravans.
This "caravanserai of the gamblers" is with the Büyük Han the last of the 19 caravanserais that Nicosia counted during the Ottoman period. Significantly smaller than its large neighbor, it was equipped with only 44 rooms to accommodate the caravans of traders. Dating from the late 17th century, it incorporates elements of buildings from the Latin period. The origin of its current name is probably due to the very bohemian reputation of the place, which was also called "caravanserai of traveling musicians". Saved from destruction in 2016, it hosts few businesses.
