KASTELLIOTISSA
This "châtelet", which includes a beautiful stone doorway and a large vaulted room, is one of Nicosia's few Frankish remains.
With its beautiful stone door and large vaulted room, this "castle" (Καστελλιώτισσα/Kastelliotissa) is one of the few Frankish remains in Nicosia. It is a former underground part of the castle "Marguerite" built from 1368 on the orders of Peter Iᵉʳ of Lusignan (1328-1369). The latter intended to lock up his opponents here. But he was the one who was assassinated there the following year, victim of a plot probably hatched by his second wife Eleanor of Aragon. Today it is a place of exhibition and a concert hall.
