BANDABULYA MARKET
Covered municipal market built in 1932. A few shops, cafés and artists' studios. But also a Muslim mausoleum.
This 4,500 m² covered market was erected during the British era, in 1932. Its Turkish name is derived from the Greek word pantopolio/παντοπωλείο, meaning "grocery store". Since the separation of the city in 1963, it has lost much of its activity. But here you can find fruit and vegetables, loukoums, meat, souvenirs, or even cafés and artists' studios. The market is also the gateway to the mausoleum of Aziz Efendi, chaplain to the Ottoman army who was killed when the city was taken in 1570, and for many years an important place of Sufi devotion.
