AQUEDUC DE NICOSIE
Aqueduct built in 1801-1803 on the orders of Governor Silahtar Hacı Hüseyin Ağa to supply the city's fountains and baths.
This portion of Ottoman aqueduct (Υδραγωγείο Λευκωσίας/Ydragogio Lefkosias) stretches some 30 m in length with eleven well-preserved arcades. Known as the Silahtar ("armorer" in Turkish) aqueduct, the complete structure ran along the eastern fortifications from the Kyrenia gate. It was built in 1801-1803 on the orders of Governor Silahtar Hacı Hüseyin Ağa to supply the city's fountains and baths with water drawn from the Pentadaktylos mountains. The aqueduct was dismantled at the beginning of the British era.
