NATIONAL GALLERY OF CONTEMPORARY ART
National museum dedicated to contemporary art in Cyprus in the first half of the century. In a 1920s villa.
Founded in 1990, this museum (Κρατική Πινακοθήκη Σύγχρονης Τέχνης/Kratiki Pinakothiki Synchronis Technis, State Gallery of Contemporary Art) occupies a 1920s colonial villa. It exhibits artists from the first half of the 20th century, in particular the precursors of contemporary art in Cyprus, sculptor Andreas Thymopoulos (1881-1953) and painter Vassilis Vryonides (1882-1958). In the old town, the SPEL annex is devoted to more recent artists.
