SOLOMOS PLACE
On the Venetian fortifications. Named after the Greek poet Dionysios Solomos, it houses the Nicosia-Sud bus station.
Since 2011, this square (Πλατεία Σολωμού) has been home to Nicosia-South's bus station, between the Old Town and the New Town. Stretching between the Tripoli bastion and a bridge over the Venetian moat, it bears the name of the Greek poet Dionysios Solomos (1798-1857), author in 1823 of theHymn to Liberty , which became the national anthem of Greece (1865) and then Cyprus (1966). A bust of the composer is located to the south of the square, near the Intercity bus departures. To the north stands a small, domed former Ottoman water tower.
