ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF TAMASSOS
Site of the ancient city-state of Tamassos. Best known for its two majestic underground tombs dating from the century BC.
This small site (Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Ταμασσού/Archaiologikos Choros Tamassou) is little promoted, but you can visit two majestic underground tombs from the 6th century B.C. Mentioned in Homer'sOdyssey, Tamassos was one of the twelve city-states of Cyprus. Founded by the Assyrians in the 7th century BC, the city derived its wealth from the copper mines of the Troodos. The site also contains the remains of a temple probably dedicated to Aphrodite.
