SAÇAKLI HOUSE
In the Selimiye district, a cultural center with temporary exhibitions in a beautiful medieval house remodeled under the Ottomans.
This pretty building in the Selimiye district (Saçaklı Ev, Eaved House) is known as an "eaves house" because of its overhanging roof. It houses a cultural center and temporary exhibitions. Of medieval origin, it was remodeled under the Ottomans with the addition of a corbelled overhang and a Baghdad-style interior. The balcony overlooking the courtyard offers fine views of the Selimiye Mosque. Next door is the İttik Dede mausoleum with the coffin of an anonymous janissary who died during the siege of Nicosia in 1570.
