Monument erected by the Turkish army to commemorate the July 20, 1974 landing on the nearby beach of Pente Mili.
This white concrete monument (Barış ve Özgürlük Anıtı) was erected by the Turkish army in 1974 to commemorate the July 20th landings. The arched part symbolizes the period of "submission" of the Turkish Cypriot minority between the departure of the Ottomans and independence (1878-1960). The upper part, made up of 11 slightly inclined bars (the longest is 41.50 m long), represents the eleven years of struggle until the Turkish invasion (1963-1974).
