CATHÉDRALE SAINT-GEORGES DE KORMAKITIS
Dating from 1933. Once the seat of the Maronite Catholic Archdiocese of Cyprus. Also worth a visit, St. George's Church ( century).
This former cathedral (Aziz Yorgo Kilisesi, Καθεδρικός Ναός Άγιος Γεώργιος/Kathedrikos Naos Agios Georgios) was before 1974 the seat of the Maronite Catholic Archdiocese of Cyprus, now in Nicosia-South. Designed by a Maltese in 1900 and completed in 1933, it is dedicated to the patron saint of Kormakitis. Mass is celebrated in Greek, Aramaic (the "language of Christ") and Cypriot Arabic (a mixture of Greek and Arabic). Nearby, note the 16th-century Church of St. George.
