AGIOS GEORGIOS TON ELLINON CATHEDRAL
Ruins of the former Orthodox cathedral of Saint-Georges-des-Grecs, completed in 1360 and severely damaged during the siege of 1571.
Now in ruins, the "St. George of the Greeks" cathedral (Aya Yorgi Rum Katedrali, Καθεδρικός Ναός Άγιος Γεώργιος των Ελλήνων/Kathedrikos Naos Agios Georgios ton Ellinon) was completed in 1360. In Franco-Byzantine style and 37.5 m long, it was the main place of worship for Famagusta's Greek Orthodox during the last Lusignan period and under the Venetians. Seriously damaged by the Ottomans in 1571, it retains traces of frescoes.
