ST. JOHN'S CHURCHES
Former Catholic churches, one belonging to the Knights Templar, the other to the Hospitallers.
These two former small Catholic churches are known as the "twin churches" (İkiz Kiliseler, Δίδυμες Εκκλησίες/Didymes Ekklisies). Built side by side in the 13th century, they belonged to two orders of monk-knights: one, with a beautiful rose window, to the Templars, and the other, smaller and adorned with coats of arms, to the Hospitallers. After the Templars were dissolved in 1312, their church was taken over by the Hospitallers and linked to the other by a passageway. Both are now used for shows and exhibitions.
