This Greek Orthodox monastery (Panagia Kanakaria Manastırı, Μονή Παναγίας Κανακαριάς/Moni Panagias Kanakarias) was founded in the5th century and remodeled until the 18th century. The church houses a precious 6th-century mosaic, one of the very few representations of the Virgin to have survived the iconoclastic movement of the 8th and 9th centuries. The Virgin can still be seen here. But the rest of the mosaic was looted in 1979 and saved by Nicosia's Byzantine Museum in 1991.
