AGIA TRIADA BASILICA
Ruined early Christian basilica with beautiful mosaics at Agia Trias/Sipahi, near Gialousa/Yeni Erenköy.
This ruined early Christian basilica (Ayios Trias Bazilikası, Βασιλική της Αγίας Τριάδας/Vasiliki tis Agias Triadas) is home to superb 6th-century mosaics: geometric motifs, representations of two pairs of sandals (as in Roman villas to invite one to take off one's shoes before entering) and the names of the donors who financed the construction: the deacon Heraclius (at the entrance) and the brothers Aetis, Euthalis and Eutychianos (west side). The basilica also features a cross-shaped baptistery and a dozen column bases.
