AGIOS SYNESIOS CHURCH
Main place of worship for Greek Cypriots in Rizokarpaso/Dipkarpaz, between the Atatürk statue and the new mosque.
This church (Ayios Sinensis Kilisesi, Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Συνεσίου/Ieros Naos Agiou Synesiou) is the main Orthodox place of worship in Rizokarpaso/Dipkarpaz, where Greek Cypriots gather for Sunday liturgy, between the equestrian statue of Atatürk (2008), the kafenio (Greek Cypriot café) and the Yenicami ("new mosque"). Erected in 1850 on the site of a 10th-century church, it is dedicated to the village's patron saint, St. Synesios of Karpasia, successor to St. Philo in the early5th century. Beautiful iconostasis inside.
