MALTA NAVAL CEMETERY
Go there and contact
Beyond the film studios, in Capuccini, a small neighborhood outside Kalkara, lies a military cemetery where soldiers from both world wars are laid to rest. It's a well-maintained site, funded by the Commonwealth War Grave Commission. Most of the soldiers buried here are British or from Commonwealth countries (Indians, New Zealanders...). But you'll also see French (many Breton names, rank and function of soldier indicated), Italian, German and Japanese graves. The aesthetic difference between Catholic and Protestant graves is clear. At the far end of the cemetery, a small monument is dedicated to the2nd Squadron of His Imperial Majesty of Japan. Carved chrysanthemum flowers (the imperial emblem), sake bottles and flowers left by families of the fallen. On your way out, if you sign the visitors' book, you'll see that the place is sometimes visited by very distant guests.
