GILLIERU HARBOUR * * * *
A real postcard setting for this pretty hotel in St Paul's Bay, between small colourful boats, tamarisk and azure blue of the sea, which is almost feet in the water. Bright, this small hotel, which is undergoing a renovation process that began in 2017, offers pleasant, well-furnished rooms with all the comforts you could wish for: television, air conditioning, safe, minibar and coffee service in each room, some with balconies to enjoy the view of the bay. At your disposal is a bar-cafétéria, which in 2019 was joined by a restaurant entirely dedicated to fish with a beautiful panoramic view of the sea. Another more indisputable one is a beautiful seawater swimming pool, with beautiful views here too. A spa is planned. A rare space in Malta.

What's not so great is that the hotel really needs a refurbishment. Most obvious is the bathroom, where there is absolutely nowhere to put your toiletries. I had to put my contact lens stuff on the sink. Even a shelf would have been enough. There's also no towel rail, so you have to put the towel on the toilet, or try draping it over the sink.
The room has two usable power sockets, one of them used by the kettle. Considering that everybody these days has at least one mobile device, that's not enough. There was a European style socket, but unless they installed an entirely separate electrical system, that's a major safety hazard because there is no fuse.
The beds are too short. I'm 1.85m, which is tall by Maltese standards, but really nothing exceptional for tourists. So I had a choice between having my feet stick out, or bump my head on the massive headboard affixed to the wall. I did both, incidentally.
There was some minor issue with the towels; one day, we only got large towels, which is inconvenient to dry your hands. Also, the teabags were never restocked.
We had a wonderful time, but these are issues that the management should address urgently.
