The church, a beautiful Baroque building, was designed by the famous Lorenzo Gafà (1693). Two wings were added in 1864, and the dome, donated by a local, was adorned with a painting of St. Nicholas by Mattia Preti. A monument to St. Nicholas stands in the church's foreground. According to tradition, the girls of Siggiewi must turn around the statue three times to find a good husband.
