The fort is polygonal in shape and is situated on a piece of land overlooking Marsaskala Bay, above St Anne's Church. It was built by the British from 1882 to 1886 with the aim of accommodating modern artillery. However, the range of the guns proved to be insufficient to protect the area of the bay they were to defend. The guns of the battery were eventually dismantled and the site was used for ammunition storage during the Second World War. Today it is used for agricultural purposes and is no longer accessible.
