CARNAVAL DE MALTE
Go there and contact
Celebrated in Valletta, Floriana, Nadur (Gozo) and other villages, it takes on a different touch depending on the location.
The first carnival was held in 1535, during the reign of Grand Master Pietro Del Ponte, in Vittoriosa (Birgu), when the knights of the Order of Malta, fresh from Rhodes, took up residence. Shows, dances and people in fancy dress enliven the streets. It takes place in Valletta, but is also celebrated in Floriana, Nadur (Gozo) and other villages. Each place has its own special character, and you'll find the costume atmosphere right down to the nightclubs of Paceville. Further information from the Malta Concil for Culture & the Arts.
