ASOCIACIÓN BATWA
One of the oldest tribes in Africa, the Batwa have been endangered and marginalized for decades. In 1991, following the creation of the Bwindi Impenetrable Park in Uganda to protect gorillas, these people were displaced without compensation, losing their access to essential resources such as honey, medicinal plants and timber that helped them subsist.
The Batwa Association, founded by Yvonne Hernandez and her son Eduardo Gonzalez, works to help the Batwa by providing them with access to education, skills enhancement and the preservation of their culture.
