Bars open early, as early as late afternoon, and often close very late. It must be said that in Madrid, many bars turn into concert halls, which in turn can become clubs. Classical bars close between 2 and 3 am.
There's nohappy hour in Madrid, but a small plate of tapas is often served as a free snack with your drink. In the night bars of Sol and Gran Via, touts often offer a free chupito (shot) to get you in. A good idea if you've come to party with young tourists. Otherwise, skip it.
After 9pm, many bars in tourist areas that offer live music no longer accept children. minimum age 18!
Enjoy a chocolate churro with a coffee in two minutes flat before going to work. And on the way out, hang out at the bar until 3am with a snack. Then bedtime? Not necessarily... There's always a club nearby!
