The Automático is one of the pillars of Lavapiès' nightlife with a very simple and warm welcome. With its retro atmosphere and pastel-coloured walls, there is a lot of nostalgia in this bar which has kept the decoration and spirit of the 1960s and 1970s. The prices don't date back to that time, but it's really cheap, like most of the small bars in the area. We go there for a racion (tapas are very good) accompanied by a caña, in the evening or on Sunday after a short trip to the flea market of the nearby Rastro.
