An old tradition, always nice and offbeat, which will not be missed with the burial of the sardine.
This long-abandoned tradition has come back into fashion over the last fifteen years, with a large number of Madrilenians taking part. The highlight of Madrid Carnival is undoubtedly El entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine), when the carnival figures are burned to mark the close of the carnival. It is preceded by a grand parade. Disguises are out in full force, and loudspeakers blare music all day long. The parade changes route every year, but is often held along the Madrid Rio.
