Everybody's waiting for the twelve strokes of midnight on the Puerta del Sol. You have to eat a grape every time!
On 31 December, as midnight approaches, thousands of people converge on the Puerta del Sol. And while the clock in the famous Plaza del Sol in the centre of Madrid rings out the twelve strokes of midnight, tradition dictates that a grape is eaten at each stroke. Twelve bites that are supposed to bring you luck all year round. Although most Madriders eat dinner at home or at friends' houses before going out on the stroke of 2am, the Puerta del Sol is still the busiest place in the capital at midnight.
