The celebration of the three main saints in August is a very popular event among the people of Madrid. One would think that this month is sad for the city, because almost 60% of its inhabitants have gone on holiday. But the festivals of Lavapiès and La Latina offer a real neighbourhood atmosphere. The chulapos costumes come out of the cupboards to attend the competitions of flowered balconies, Verbenas (bars in the street), bandas, competitions of mus (kind of belote)... To do!
