SAN ANTONIO DE LOS ALEMANES CHURCH
Church with a beautiful fresco, built in 1606 under the reign of Philip III, belonging to the brotherhood of the refuge
Built in 1606, during the reign of Philip III, who wished to offer this church to the Portuguese living in Madrid, hence the original name: San Antonio de los Portugueses. When Portugal gained independence, the church emptied. In 1689, regent Maria Anna of Austria decided to cede it to the Catholic Germans who were arriving in Madrid at the time. Since Philip V, it has belonged to the Brotherhood of Refuge, which helps the most destitute. Don't miss the fresco inside.
