ALMUDENA CATHEDRAL
Neo-Baroque style building, with a neoclassical exterior and a neo-Gothic interior, with a Romanesque crypt
The initial project dates from 1879 and was designed by the Marquis of Cuba. A neo-Gothic building with a Romanesque crypt was planned, but the project was abandoned until 1946. Architects Carlos Sidro and Fernando Chueca Goitia took over the construction, this time in a neobaroque style. It was completed in 1993 and inaugurated by Pope John Paul II. In the end, from the outside it is neoclassical, while from the inside it is neo-gothic. The crypt is rather Romanesque.
