CONVENT OF LAS TRINITARIAS DESCALZAS
Convent where the University of Alcalá is located and where Miguel de Cervantes is buried, helped by the order of the Trinitarias when he escaped
Miguel de Cervantes is buried in the convent, which has been partially converted to house the University of Alcalá. The Trinitaria order helped him escape by paying for his release from Algerian gaols, where he spent five years in captivity. Very grateful, he asked to be buried there. One of his daughters entered the convent. An explanatory panel also tells the story of Sister Marcela de San Felix, daughter of Lope de Vega, a talented author and poet.
