APOLLO FOUNTAIN
Statue of Apollo, god of the arts and god of the sun, commissioned in 1781 to Manuel Álvarez, one of the most beautiful classical works
This statue is one of the most beautiful classical works of art in the kingdom. Apollo, the god of the arts, wears a lyre and is accompanied by sculptures representing the four seasons, since he is also the god of the Sun. The statue was commissioned in 1781 from Manuel Álvarez. But the sculptor could not complete his work until his death sixteen years later. Carlos IV, who wished to inaugurate the monument for the wedding of the Prince of Asturias (future King Fernando VII) with Marie-Antoinette de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles, found replacements and it was completed in 1802.
