VELÁZQUEZ PALACE
Velázquez Palace built with 19th century building materials, hosts temporary exhibitions of the Reina Sofía
In 1883, the Ministry of Fomento (Infrastructure) commissioned the architect Ricardo Velázquez Bosco to organize the National Mining Exhibition in Retiro. Today, only the Velázquez Palace bears witness to this event. The building is structured in three rectangular bodies gathered around a central gallery. All the new building materials of the 19th century are included in this building: granite, brick, ceramics, iron, zinc and crystal. The work was inaugurated on May 30, 1883. It hosts temporary exhibitions of the Reina Sofía.
