Corralas or old collective dwellings around a courtyard, with floors of wooden balconies, one classified as a national monument

Corralas are old collective dwellings organised around a courtyard, with several floors of wooden balconies. Water was common. Corrala comes from corral, the "farmyard".

Between calle Sombrerete and calle Tribulete, one of these buildings can be seen, which has been declared a National Monument. This is not the only corrala in Madrid, you can find them in calle Sombrerete (13), calle Mesón de Paredes (79), calle Espino (6) and calle Ruda (3). Built between the 17th and 19th centuries, they were intended for the working class.
