Italian style palace, inaugurated as a museum in 1954 and exhibiting a personal collection of the publisher José Lázaro Galdiano
José Lázaro Galdiano (1862-1947), a wealthy publisher, bequeathed his personal collection (ivories, enamels, fans, jewellery) and his incredible art gallery (Francisco de Goya, Leonardo da Vinci, El Greco, Zurbarán and Jerome Bosch) to the Spanish State in 1948. The palace, in Italian style, was built at the beginning of the 19th century and inaugurated as a museum in 1954. In 1962 it was declared a historical and artistic monument. It is the essential complement to the Prado Museum.
