PALACIO REAL DEL PARDO
15th century palace with a moat all around, containing a collection of tapestries and a part reserved for the Franco couple
The first building, dating from the 15th century, was surrounded by a moat. In 1544, Charles I, also known as Charles V, replaced it with a slate-covered palace organized around a patio with a tower at each corner. In 1772, Sabatini reformed the palace and added two patios. The tour includes a fine collection of tapestries, some based on works by Goya. You can also visit the part of the palace reserved for the Franco couple. The Casita del Principe, the equivalent of the Petit Trianon, was built by Charles IV for his wife María Luisa.
