FORMER UNIVERSITY
Remarkable building in the city with a Mudejar style chapel with a tomb carved in white Carrara marble
A remarkable building in the city. The façade, in plateresque style, dates from 1543. In the cloister Mayor, a well is decorated with swans. They are also found at the base of the pillars of the second gallery. The cloister, also in Plateresque style, housed the Latin, Greek and Hebrew courses. It is in the paraninfo, a large amphitheatre, that the prestigious Cervantes Prize is awarded each year to the lucky elected writer. The chapel of San Ildefonso, in Mudéjar style, houses the tomb of Cardinal Cisneros carved in white Carrara marble.
