The Motín celebrations take place at the beginning of September in the municipality of Aranjuez. They commemorate the popular uprising against Godoy (the favourite of María Luisa, wife of Charles IV) in 1808, which caused the loss of the latter. Hundreds of people dressed in period costumes participate in the re-enactment of this mutiny, based on the texts of the Episodios Nacionales by Pérez Galdós. First, the assault and burning of Godoy's house, then the pirate descent of the Tagus. A Goyesca bullfight, in period costume, is also celebrated on this occasion.
