ROYAL PALAIS
Baroque palace with two neoclassical side wings surrounding the Main Square, the Royal Chapel and the Porcelain Hall
The plans were commissioned from Juan Herrera (architect of El Escorial) by Philip II. The palace underwent several fires and renovations. Sabatini added two neoclassical side wings to the Baroque edifice, surrounding the Place d'Armes. A bust of Louis XIV by Coysevox can be seen on the beautiful staircase. The royal chapel was designed by Sabatini. The porcelain room also dates from the reign of Charles III. Two Neapolitans decorated it entirely with porcelain plates from the Buen Retiro factory.
