Funchal has a black sand and pebble beach, Praia Formosa (west of town), and a very small beach to the east, Praia da Barreirinha. The aquatic areas of Lido and Ponta Gorda are well equipped with pools and access to the ocean (the pool of Lido is the largest!). However, the city's swimming areas are quickly saturated in summer. Good to know: Madeira is also an increasingly popular wellness destination. In terms of spas, there is the very luxurious Savoy Resort Spa, the Vine Hotel, the Quintinha São João, and the Vidamar Resorts.
