PALHEIRO GARDENS
At an altitude of nearly 500 m, this large estate belongs to the Blandy family, a long line of English merchants who settled in Madeira. Palheiro's gardens are very pleasant and well worth a visit, from the Sunken Garden to the Rose Garden, the da Senhora Garden, the Camelias Avenue or the chapel of the estate. There are many varieties of trees and flowering plants to discover, such as the blue cedar, the Gabonese tulip tree, the fern tree (jacaranda) or the erythrin. Hibiscus and bougainvillea bloom here all year round.
