A little higher than Monte, in the direction of Poiso, an esplanade provides a panoramic view of the bay and the amphitheatre of Funchal. A statue represents Zarco, the Discoverer. Inaugurated in 1912, Quinta Terreiro da Luta, commissioned by the then director of the Monte Railway, is a Swiss-inspired chalet that hosts wedding banquets, group meals and celebrations. Above, a monument, inaugurated in 1927 and dedicated to Our Lady of Peace, was built after the bombing of Funchal in 1917 by German submarines.
