MUDAS
Two buildings make up this state-of-the-art museum of contemporary art: the historic 16th-century manor house Casa das Mudas (once owned by João Gonçalves Zarco's granddaughter), which hosts temporary exhibitions, and a series of minimalist basalt cubes designed by architect Paulo David, which house the museum's permanent collections. The spotlight is on contemporary Portuguese art, from the 1960s to the present day, with 400 works by local artists such as Lourdes de Castro and Martha Telles. Worth the detour!
