Here lava secretions have formed a small flat overhang at the foot of the cliff and the fringe of this flat, bordering the water, has created pools that the sea has transformed into swimming pools. A few trowels later, Porto Moniz, until then mainly known for its cattle fair, became a popular little seaside resort. The site, although concreted, remains impressive. In summer, don't expect to enjoy it alone. There are free natural swimming pools and wilder ones to be discovered near the aquarium. Watch the flags before you swim!

I was likely to see these pools without much crowds and could offer many and beautiful photos during movements of tides. You can see the plants that start to colonize lava while clinging in anfractuosities. An interesting small museum nearby.
We went to the natural pools one day when it was bad but the charm was nevertheless. Unfortunately not to have been able to swim but we admiring the landscape and lunched in the restaurant that opens directly above. Magnificent!
