FESTA DO PANELO
The inhabitants of Seixal gather in the countryside to cook a gigantic stew in a panelo (pot).
It takes place on the last Sunday of January, in Chão da Ribeira do Seixal. It is one of the oldest traditions of the Madeira archipelago. On the occasion of the "Panelo" festival, the inhabitants of the region gather in the countryside to cook a gigantic stew in a panelo (a large pot) and share a convivial meal with friends and neighbors. On the menu of this gargantuan meal, meat and sweet potatoes that are served on large cabbage leaves. A gathering that could not be more local!
