This "mansion of the little stream" traces 600 years of history in the city of Machico, through its historical characters, from Roberto Machin or Robert MacKean (the Cross of Machim is exhibited here) to Tristão Teixeira, the former captain-governor of Machico presented in painting, through Francisco Álvares de Nóbrega, an 18th century poet born in Machico. Instructive videos on the sugarcane harvest and on ancient culinary specialties of the island, such as couscous and sweet potato bread, are also presented.
