FESTA DE SANTO AMARO
It is celebrated all over the island, but finds a resonance in Santa Cruz, Santo Amaro being the patron saint of the city.
Celebrated throughout the Island, Saint Amaro's Day marks the end of the Christmas festivities that continue until January 15th in Madeira. This is the time to disarm the famous nativity scenes (rabbit hunt) and Christmas decorations, but also to prepare a festive last meal to be shared with the family. The municipality of Santa Cruz has a special festive and religious atmosphere as Santo Amaro is the patron saint of the city. On the programme: mass, procession, popular meal, traditional craft stalls and folk music.
