FESTA DE SANTO AMARO
It is celebrated all over the island, but finds a resonance in Santa Cruz, Santo Amaro being the patron saint of the city.
Celebrated throughout the island, Saint Amaro's Day marks the end of the Christmas festivities, which continue in Madeira until January 15. It's time to take down the famous nativity scenes(rabbithase) and Christmas decorations, but also to prepare a last festive meal to share with the family. The municipality of Santa Cruz comes alive with a special festive and religious atmosphere, as Santo Amaro is the town's patron saint. On the program: mass, procession, popular meal, traditional craft stalls and folk music.
