2 km southeast of Pico do Arieiro and 4.5 km northwest of the Poiso pass. The site is signposted from the road. This is a unique example of a surviving "glacier" well from the days when snow was stored. Built in 1813, it is 8 m deep and could hold up to 265m3 of ice. It looks like a huge igloo, with its stone dome standing in the open at 1,650 metres above sea level. A beautiful natural space.
